Support needed for an exciting new car park for Stage Field, Silver Hill

The Parish Council is seeking support for an initiative to improve access and facilities at Stage Field, a public open space owned by the council. Although well served by a public footpath, access by car is very hazardous. The Parish Council has planning permission for a new access point and a small parking area, but we need resident support to enable us to access grants which will enable the project to be completed.

Stage Field is a public open space gifted to the area in 1949 by Colonel T B. Hornblower. The Parish Council took on a 999 year lease of the field in 2010. Situated on one of the highest points in the county, the field has commanding views over the surrounding area along with a rich historical past being the site of the second largest Napoleonic fort in the country and with a 1960's Royal Observer bunker still in situ, not to mention the area's connection to the notorious Hawkhurst Gang and murder of customs officer Thomas Carswell.

Although well served by a public footpath access from the road, especially by a vehicle is very hazardous. For this reason, the Parish Council proposes and has planning permission for, a new access point with improved visibility and a small parking area.

This will open up the field for more events and activities to be enjoyed by all. This includes a football/games area, wildflower meadow and picnic area along with historical information boards as well as a map of the surrounding areas and places of note visible from the field. All suggestions will be considered that are in keeping with the area and peaceful enjoyment by all.

In order to proceed with this venture, the Parish Council is looking to obtain a WARR partnership grant for 80% of the required amount of approximately £80,000, with a public works loan to make up the remaining amount.

For this application to be successful we need the support of residents and from local groups and organisations.
